(This is quite possibly the most amazing look ever - even though my friend Cynthia will probably kill me for saying that since she hates fur :-/)
When a brand prides themselves on using over 2000 different,
innovative and unique fabrics and boasts a time period of at least 70 hours per
suit it not only shows their commitment to presenting us with beautiful clothes
but also keeping the rich history of Menswear tailoring alive at a time where
men will choose go for dinner in sneakers and shorts.
This commitment and pride towards menswear is exactly what
Parisian brand Smalto does by continuing their tradition of formal and bespoke
tailoring and including these timeless traditions into their couture cloakroom,
and casual chic prêt-à-porter line of menswear. For their Fall/Winter
2012-2013 Smalto has gone for the classic romanticised image of a man in
classic menswear attire from days past and made it relevant for todays styles
and what the modern renaissance type man is looking for. By using the
"cran necker" stitch - which is a classic Parisian stylistic detail
on the collar and lapels of the jackets - the brand has stayed true to their
roots as a leader in the Parisian tailoring market.
The collection shown is a range of tailored ready to wear suits,
jackets and accessories with the highest standards of menswear with every piece
completely hand stitched and even the shoulder pads being made by hand. It is
refreshing to see that in times like now, where most things are made in China
and of a lesser standard for the sake of profit rather than commitment to
excellence that some Fashion Houses still choose to maintain the core values
that the brand was founded upon.
