Whilst not being as much as a house name as
brands such as Ray-Ban and Persol, few brands have made such an impact in
fashion, especially in the more slow moving world of Optical and Eyewear as
Hollywood based Oliver Peoples.
Founded in 1986 by brothers Larry and Dennis
Leight after purchasing real estate for the first store on Sunset Boulevard and
a selling a collection of vintage sunglasses bought from estate sales with the
the original receipt signed by Oliver Peoples and so brand was formed.
Since 1987, Oliver Peoples have been designing
their own range of eyewear inspired by vintage styles of the 1940′s-60′s and the geometric,
futuristic designs of the 80′s and the
styles in fashion of the time.
Today their designs are on sale worldwide and
feature glasses that pay homage to the “Goldern Age” with a current range of
designs inspired by “To Kill a Mocking Bird” Hollywood veteran Gregory Peck.
These days, the brand appeals to many of the fashion and hollywood elite, with
a fan base consisting of Jay Z and Robert Downey Jr and recent collaborations
with Zooey Deschanel and Balmain. Oliver Peoples designs can be described as
too traditional and classic to ever go out of fashion and with everyone now
still looking to aspire to the old Hollywood glam, Oliver Peoples are never a trend, they're always in style
(I stole that from their twitter page).
