Some Photo's from My B-Dizzle (Birthday)

(More will come soon soon :) )

Félicitations à Moi :D

Today on the 13th November 2011, I officially turned 18 :).

It doesn't really seem real.
I don't know, over the years it just seems that Birthdays have lost their excitement from the one ones in the beginning of my life, the same is going for Christmas. Maybe it is just a part of growing up?

Well, I spent the night having dinner with 10 of my closets friends and then we went to a club afterwards. I had such an amazing night, with the best friends a person could ever want :)<3.

I love my friends soooooo much.
The past year has been extremely difficult for me, between eating problems, stress, being bullied and a whole bunch of other stuff, their support for me has always stood firm, and I will always be indebted to them <3.

I think in modern times, especially in a Country like South Africa, where Alcohol is pretty easily available and in Durban, most clubs and Bars aren't that strict with checking I.D, so not being 18 doesn't really stop you from going out and partying.

Being 18 in some ways takes away from the adventure of going to a club because that sense of risk you take when the Bouncer asks to see your I.D and you have to create a whole other identity on the spot is taken away. (I always pretended to be a Colombian, just saying :P).

It feels like this year has gone by extremely fast. This time last year, I was preparing to go to France on an exchange programme. It seems strange that it is nearly one year since I met my friends from there (I will be doing a special tribute to them on the 3rd of December, so someone please remind me :P). I mean, at this rate, (and if Einsteins theory of relativity plays any part), buy this time tomorrow I will be 52 and will be on Doctor 90210, planning my first facelift!

Thank you to everyone who has made me live these past 18 years.

Call me anything but don't call me Normal.

People often ask me, why I dress the way I do.
(I will upload pictures soon of what I wear).

I don't wear what the typical "Durban Boy", or frankly what most normal guys my age wear.
And why may this be? ...

Due to its generally all-year-around hot Climate, Durban guys usually wear Flip-Flops, Baggies, Vests, T-Shirts, all that that "Beach", sort of clothing.

I hate the heat, the beach really isn't for me and I will never ever ever ever ever wear a vest.
So, frankly, why would I wear something I hate?

The answer is simple, I dress the way I would like to see other people dressed.
Hence, why I always get stared at when I go to the mall. I don't dress like anyone else I know.
Whether that is good or bad, well I don't really care :). I am happy in my High waisted pants and coloured skinny jeans, and stare all you want :).

I don't understand why there is still divisions in what Men and Women wear, or in any reason for that matter.

For example: Why are there separate mens and women's bathrooms?
and: Why can't men wear dresses??

Men in Japan have been wearing Kimono's for Centuries, and Men in Scotland still wear Kilts.

Men in Medievel Europe wore tights and tops that come down to the knee, that could be considered being "Dress-Like", so why won't men now, and if Women have been wearing Pants since World War II, then what is the big deal with men in Dresses or Skirts?? I read in a Magazine recently that Marc Jacobs wears a pencil-skirt every now and then. What an awesome fellow.

I recently purchased a pair of High-Waisted pants. Nowadays I only ever see girls wearing them, but most girls don't pull them off properly. For a girl to wear high-wasited pants, she needs to have absolutely no curves what-so-ever, a tiny waist and really long legs, otherwise the high waist accentuates the waist and makes you look bigger, which is exactly what you don't want.

Hence, why they suit men. Men don't have curves and, whenever I have seen men wearing them in Vintage movies, they always look impeccable and very well tailored wearing them. (High waisted pants were popular for most of the 20th Century), but why won't men wear them now??

It boggles my mind, it really does. ...
I could carry this on for ages and ages, but I have had an exhausting week and I am a Sleepyhead :).

Hugs, Love and Other Drugs :)

HELLOOOOOOOOO

Hello, Salut, Hola, etc etc etc etc etc.

I'm really sorry I have been absent this week :(.
I have been writing my final matric exams, and I had 3 this week all in a row, and between studying I was sleeping. Don't know why, but I have been so exhausted this week. Maybe its because I am trying to take coffee out my diet, which didn't really work well because I just had like 3 cups hahaha.

Okay, anyway.
Besides writing exams, my week has been terrible. ...
Firstly, ZARA opened in Johannesburg this week, and another store is set to open in Durban sometime in the next week. So, why is this a problem for someone who loves ZARA?

Well, since ZARA is now in South Africa, I have to find another brand that is just as amazing that no-one else here can get!!!!

And, I know who that Brand will be :).
It is "The Kooples"(www.thekooples.com), and it is even better because they don't deliver outside of Europe :D. Their clothes are so absolutely amazing, oh and they just happen to be this weeks "Fashion Friday, so check it out, it will be up later :). (brett-yves-fashion.blogspot.com).

AND secondly, next year when I am finished school I am hopefully going to London, and I am hopefully going for an interview for "Schön" magazine (schonmagazine.com), and hopefully I can get an internship, and last night they had a party and of course I couldn't go :(.

Now, I am watching CNN and like coughing up a Lung, bet you had my life right now? :P.

It isn't all bad though, on Sunday it is my 18th Birthday, and some friends are coming over for dinner and then going to a party afterwards :).

Oh, big ups to everyone from Russia that have seen my Blog this week! Loads of you look this week, even passing South Africa! But also, Thank you to everyone that has been looking at my blog and is interested in this all, whatever it is hahaha. You guys make me feel like I am living instead of just surviving :).

So, here is a cover by an amazing girl of one of my favourite songs. (Big ups to my friend Alicja youvegotgrowinguptodokid.blogspot.com for finding this!)

I hope you had an amazing week and have an amazing weekend!!!!!

John Galliano Fall - Winter: 2011/2012

I must say, despite his personal life and issues: This man really knows how to design clothes to make it entertaining.

BUT,

I think I love the music in this runway show, more then the actual collection :P
Sometimes awful things have their own kind of beauty.

Ex Libris en Kimono

Ex Libris, the famous Hermès symbol is magnified through a silk patchwork as on the back of a kimono which conveys many messages. The patterns are governed by several themes as floral one, expressing age and social status. It’s been established in collaboration with Matsuzakaya, Kimono’s designer since 1611.

Last Friday Night

Okay, so it wasn't really last Friday night, it was actually last night but "Last Tuesday Night" was never the name of a hit Billboard Top 100 Song or the name of a song by Katy Perry, so last friday night it is.

So, last Friday (Tuesday, as in yesterday) I spend my night in hospital, with needles sticking into me, in unimaginable pain with a Kidney stone, or "The Male Version of being in Labour".

The day before my Final Afrikaans exam paper. ...
Now I have to wait until about (Plus, minus) February or March.

My European takeover plan will have to take a backseat until then.

I'm sad :(

Hello, I am Brett and I enjoy watching Matadors get gorged by Bulls

It suddenly just dawned on me how long it has been since I actually wrote something and didn't just post a video or photo, and now since I have an extremely bad case of insomnia and most of my friends are sleeping, or out partying and I need to think of something else to post for todays "Fashion Friday:
(brett-yves-fashion.blogspot.com), I have some time to write something. ...

I have suddenly come to realise that, I am finally finished school and writing final exams,
Funny. ...
The last thing I remember is being in Grade One, and meeting who would be my best friend for the past 12 years, Chiao-Feng.
It really doesn't seem real in the slightest.

But, I would be lying if I said I wasn't extremely glad it is all over.
School for me, especially high-school has been possibly the most miserable time, full of nothing but bad memories, humiliation, and sadness.
I would not wish my school experience on anyone.
But, who cares right? It is only 12 years. Most of your life, you spend out of school anyway. School only makes up a tiny part of it.
I hold absolutely no like "Emotional Attachment" to school at all. Most of my life revolves around things I do outside of school anyway.
I was not sad on my last day of Matric.
I was not sad at my final lunch with my grade, frankly I didn't really want to be there anyway.
And I most defiantly wasn't sad at my Matric Valedictory.

Call me sad or a bad person or whatever, but I just don't really care about those sort of things.
It is time to move on, and leave that all behind me.
The Dog Days are over :)

I am really sorry you all are reading this. ...
But, I guess this is my form of just "Letting go".
For once, I think I am making myself seem like a real person, and not just made out of stone as some people would say about me.

One Month, and Finals will be over, and this chapter will be closed forever.

And what will be for me in the future, (you may be wondering if you haven't stopped reading and clicked on a link out of this webpage and onto change your Facebook or Twitter Status).

Well, that is currently unknown. I have a lot of Ideas.
It defiantly involves a lot of Traveling, Learning, Fashion, Romance (Hopefully) and Paris (Of course)
and hopefully you will see me on the cover of a magazine :D.

Hahaha, well only time can tell.
Thank-You to everyone who reads my Blog :).
I hope this wasn't too lame for you.
I promise to be more upbeat in the future :),
In fact, I'm going to upload an upbeat song
right.
after.
this.
full.
stop

James Dean - Style Icon

What You Need To Know
  • James Dean wardrobe staples include white tees, denim and a leather jacket.
  • He wore dressier duds like the shawl collar jacket that he is recognized for having resurrected.
  • His rebellious look marked a definite departure from predominantly preppy styles.

Why He's A Style Icon

James Dean, who himself was a man of few words, requires little explanation when it comes to discussing his status as a style icon. He was the king of cool.

Dean’s first television experience came in the form of a 1950 Pepsi commercial -- a far cry from his first big-screen debut five years later in Elia Kazan’s East of Eden. His role as the angsty outcast Cal Trask was a prelude to achieving full-blown stardom in Rebel Without a Cause. The brooding young actor gained international fame playing Jim Stark, a teenager who, as the title implies, can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Dean had a classic greaser look with slicked-back hair, jeans and a tight white T-shirt that was capped off not with a black leather jacket but a red windbreaker, and of course, a cigarette dangling from his mouth. It may not seem cutting-edge by today’s style icon standards, but his rebellious look marked a definite departure from predominantly preppy and buttoned-up midcentury styles.

Life imitated art with James Dean carrying that brazen image into his everyday existence. A taste for fast cars was conveniently accompanied by fame and fortune that allowed him luxuries like a Porsche 356 Speedster, which he later traded in for the more exclusive -- and faster -- 550 Spyder model. Not surprisingly, Dean had a habit of racing his pricey investments. It was the natural complement to his all-American bad boy persona. But as luck would have it, life in the fast lane ultimately led to an untimely demise at the ripe young age of 24.

Dean’s legacy, however, far outlives his short time on Earth for one simple reason: He embodied the essence of cool. He was one of the first male actors who garnered as much attention from women as he did from men. And while James Dean’s sexual past remains shrouded in mystery to this day, one thing is clear: Everyone either wanted him or wanted to be like him.

Dress The Dean Way

It is indeed possible to be almost as irresistible as Dean without putting your life in danger. His immortal sense of style is easy to infuse into your wardrobe, and the truth is, you’re probably already halfway there (everyone has a T-shirt and jeans; they just have to be cut right). Dean’s look comes from an era when clothes fit properly by hugging the body rather than hanging and bunching with enough extra fabric to outfit a family of four.

There is more, however, to Dean’s look than
understanding denim and a white tee. He is credited with popularizing the vest as part of his Texas oil tycoon role in the posthumously released film Giant. Dean also had his hands on dressier duds like the shawl collar dinner jacket that he is recognized for having resurrected. From the familiar to the formal, James Dean was a timeless trendsetter -- and an undeniably cool one at that.

Passion Pit - Sleepyhead

'
Don't you think in the beginning, the very high-pitched voice sounds like it is saying:
"Asian and Horney, eat a taco with me"?

My friend Cynthia and I, had a debate about it today, which ended in me being the victor (as usual :P)
So now she agrees with me too, and thinks it is pretty creepy. ...

Oh well, still love this song so much :).

P.S: The actual lyrics are:

And everything is going to the beat
And everything is going to the beat
And everything is going

And you said, it was like fire around the brim
... Burning solid, burning thin the burning rim
Like stars burning holes right through the dark
Flicking fire like saltwater into my eyes
You were one inch from the edge of this bed
I dragged you back a sleepyhead, sleepyhead

They couldn't think of something to say the day you burst
With all their lions, with all their might and all their thirst
They crowd your bedroom like some thoughts wearing thin
Against the walls, against your rules, against your skin
My beard grew down to the floor and out through the doors
Of your eyes, begonia skies like a sleepyhead, sleepyhead

and I will take you to a magic purple sea
and maybe we will find a thousand sugar fish

they will grant your every wish"

Have a good day everyone

Childhood Favourite :)

Barbapapa is both the title character, and name of the "species" of said character, of a series of children's books written in the 1970s by Annette Tison and Talus Taylor, who resided in Paris, France. The books were originally written in French (barbe à papa is French for cotton candy, or—literally—"father's beard"), and were later translated into over 30 languages. As short cartoons of a length of only five minutes, they reached a broader audience via TV. Also a comic book version was created. Both the cartoons and comics sometimes show concerns about the environment and contain environmental messages.
Barbapapa himself is a generally mango-shaped, pink shapeshifting blob-like creature who stumbles upon the human world and tries to fit in. The shapeshifting is usually accompanied by the saying "Clickety Click—Barba Trick". After various amusing adventures, he comes across a female of his species (more shapely, and black-coloured), named Barbamama. They produce seven children, known as the Barbababies, each a different colour:
  • Barbazoo, yellow, male, lover of animals
  • Barbalala, green, female, lover of music
  • Barbalibz, orange, female, lover of books
  • Barbabeau, black and furry, male, lover of art
  • Barbabelle, purple, female, lover of beauty
  • Barbabright, blue, male, lover of science
  • Barbabravo, red, male, lover of strength and heroism

Isabelle Caro

Isabelle Caro was a French model and actress from Marseille, France, who became well known after appearing in a controversial ad campaign "No Anorexia" which showed Caro with vertebrae and facial bones showing under her skin in a picture by photographer Oliviero Toscani. Caro suffered from severe anorexia nervosa from the age of 13. Her anorexia was caused by what she called a "troubled childhood".
"I had a very complicated childhood, very difficult, very painful. My mother's big phobia was that I would grow. She spent her time measuring my height. She wouldn't let me go outside because she'd heard that fresh air makes children grow, and that's why I was kept at home. It was completely traumatic."
It was revealed that at the worst of her eating disorder, she weighed only 25 kilograms at a height of 1.65 metres; her most recent weight was 33 kilograms. Caro was hospitalized for the first time when she was 20. At her worst, in 2006, she slipped into a coma, weighing just 25 kilograms. The doctor said she would not survive the coma but she did.
Caro was also interviewed in the second episode of the TV documentary series, "The Price of Beauty", in which Jessica Simpson, traveled the world to explore the meaning of true beauty. Simpson investigated the problem of how some female fashion models have become obsessed with being skinny. Caro talked about how she became anorexic and warned other girls about the affliction. Simpson was moved to say "What you are doing right now makes you more beautiful and I hope women all over the world hear about the story and it is important to know that how skinny you are does not make you beautiful."

Caro died on 17 November 2010 in France, after spending about two weeks in hospital with acute respiratory disease. The cause of her death is unknown. Caro's acting instructor, Daniele Dubreuil-Prevot, told the Associated Press news agency that Caro had died "after returning to France" from a job in Tokyo. Her family only reported Caro's death to the media a month afterward, on 29 December 2010. Caro died in Paris and is buried in the Cimetière du Montparnasse.
