My Thoughts on: Saint Laurent Paris
Yves Saint Laurent is my hero, I even mentioned him when writing my essay and when I wrote my entrance exam for ESMOD, words really can't describe how much I love him and the Yves Saint Laurent brand.
I was shocked when I found out about the name change implemented by Hedi Slimane, as YSL was one of the most iconic names in the fashion industry. It can be understood though, and he said he wanted to change it to represent the history of Yves Saint Laurent, given the original name of the prêt-à-porter (ready to wear) line "Saint Laurent Rive Gauche" (Saint Laurent Left Bank) but personally I feel like YSL has not changed, but moved on too much to move back to that name and whilst history is important it shouldn't be repeated. I mean, everyone knows Yves Saint Laurent, it is like if Lady Gaga suddenly went back to using Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Sure it is her name and her history is there but she has re-invented herself into this "new" brand too far to go back.
I think Hedi Slimane might have bitten off more than he can chew with this one.
Anyway, whats done is done and if you are interested - here is the new branding for Saint Laurent Paris. ...But if they wanted to keep the history of Yves Saint Laurent, then why didn't Hedi call it Saint Laurent Rive Gauche?

Sunglasses are my favourite accessory, along with Scarves and Bags.
I especially love Vintage style ones from the 1940's - 60's with Tortoiseshell frames and green polarised or brown lenses (bear this in mind when looking at the pairs in this post).
Anyway, here are 5 pairs I wish I had.

The Young Frenchman
A Heartfelt Homage
"The young Frenchman is like no other.
Steeped in the great tradition of the Romantic Hero,
he's a modern-day Julien Sorel, sprung from the pages of Stendhal.
He also has something of the Rimbaudian anti-hero,
torn and tattered by the travails of youthful angst.
Cinema, not only the New Wave of the 1960's,
has greatly contributed to paint a compelling picture of the young Frenchman.
The ribald spirit of Jean-Pierre Léaud in François Trufaut's - The 400 Blows.
The quintessentially French beauty of the young Alain Delon
(the archetypal French bad boy) appropriated
by Michelangelo Antonioni and Luchino Visconti.
The natural swagger of Jean-Paul Belmondo in Jean-Luc Godard's - Breathless
gives us a glimpse of his singular character.
The young Frenchman is forever in love, ambiguous and complex.
The young Frenchman isn't necessarily Parisian,
although through sheer perseverance he might indeed end up so.
- Hedi Slimane

Balmain: Women's Resort - Spring 2013
Womenswear isn't really my thing.
I am not a women, so I can't really "connect" with it like I can with menswear.
I can appreciate the beauty of it though, not in words but in my mind.
I tried to write a review on this collection, but words just fail me because I love it so much, I will just be way too biased and not neutral.
But I will tell you this, it is just simply amazing.
I quite like the idea of wearing snakeskin loafers without socks
I will be the first to say that I am not the kind of "bloke" that will go around to the bar and watch the rugby with mates, but when it comes to dressing, I know how a man should dress and I think secretly how most men do want to dress.
Instead of trying to show men what they "should" wear - designers should make clothes that men "want" to wear.
Many designers, instead of making a distinct look for their menswear collection, apart from their womenswear collections because really - some of the time it seems like they just make the menswear collections out of every scrap and sequin left over on the sewing room floor. It is all good and well to want to introduce men to new aspects, fabrics, textures etc etc etc, but it should be an evolution, not a radical transformation.
I think that is why I love Balmain so much. They create clothes for men, and what a man whats to look like not necessarily what they want a man to look like. Not all men are as "Avant-Guarde" and out there as the majority of the fashion forward gay men in the fashion industry.

I know I am not very good at explaining myself so sorry if I repeat or if I don't use the best language but I hate re-reading things over and over. I just type as I think.
Basically, I do think that menswear is drastically behind when compared to womenswear in terms of sales and the industry as a whole but in order for it to grow, it needs to be appealing to the majority of men who can buy it, but the majority of men are not as open to new concepts in fashion and it should be introduced slowly.
I understand the point that Burberry was trying to make with the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, and I applaud him for trying to introduce new fabrics, colours and textures to menswear but really? What man will really wear that coat in the image below.
Really now, who would you like to look like: James Dean or Liberace?
